Microsoft Clarity

Read Microsoft Clarity dashboard exports, analytics answers and session recording samples with the clarity CLI.

What it covers

Clarity shows how real users behave on a site: dashboard metrics by device, country or page, sampled session recordings with rage clicks, dead clicks or JavaScript errors, and answers to analytics questions asked in plain language.

Connect

Clarity issues one token per project, so make one connection per project. Tie it to an environment when each environment's site is a separate Clarity project:

reckon connect clarity-prod --org acme --provider clarity --for-env prod

An admin creates the token in Clarity under Settings, Data Export, Generate new API token. Fill in ~/.reckon/orgs/acme/secrets/clarity-prod.env:

CLARITY_API_TOKEN=replace_me

Instead of the file, you can run reckon login clarity-prod in your own terminal: it runs clarity auth login and keeps the token in that connection's private config.

reckon verify clarity-prod runs clarity auth status --verify -o json, which uses one of the project's 10 daily export requests.

Read-only contract

Every Clarity API call the CLI makes is a read. Reckon still runs clarity with CLARITY_READ_ONLY=true and CLARITY_NO_INPUT=true, refuses --token, --profile, --config, --read-only and --no-input, and refuses the auth login, auth logout, auth use, login, config and update commands.

Key commands

reckon run clarity -- recordings list --days 2 --rage-clicks --count 100 -o json
reckon run clarity -- recordings list --days 7 --device Mobile --url /checkout --count 25 -o json
reckon run clarity -- export --days 1 --dimension Device -o json
reckon run clarity -- analytics query 'Top pages by rage clicks in the last 3 days' --timezone UTC -o json
reckon run clarity -- export dimensions -o json

The export API covers only the last 1 to 3 days, at most 3 dimensions and 1,000 rows, and allows 10 requests per project per day. Reckon counts them per connection (export and --verify checks, not cache hits), warns when two are left and refuses the rest of the UTC day once all 10 are spent. Use --cache and saved evidence instead of asking again. Recordings are a sample, not a complete export.
