Submission & IndexNow
Submit URLs, page content, and sitemaps to Bing, check quota, and notify search engines with IndexNow using bwt.
IndexNow (preferred)
IndexNow tells Bing and the other participating search engines about new, changed, or deleted URLs. It needs no Bing login and spends no Bing quota; you prove ownership by hosting a key file.
bwt indexnow key generate # creates a key for your site's host and saves it
# upload KEY.txt, containing only the key, to https://www.example.com/KEY.txt
bwt indexnow key check # fetches the key file and confirms it matcheskey generate and key check follow your site's redirect between example.com and
www.example.com, so the key lands on the host that serves your pages. Pass --host to choose one.
bwt indexnow submit https://www.example.com/new-post
bwt indexnow submit --file changed.txt
bwt indexnow submit --sitemap https://www.example.com/sitemap.xml --changed-since 2026-10-01URLs are grouped by host and sent up to 10,000 per request. --endpoint picks indexnow
(api.indexnow.org, the default), bing, or any HTTPS endpoint; one submission reaches every
participating engine. 200 and 202 mean received (202: key validation pending), not indexed.
URL submission
bwt quota # remaining daily and monthly quota
bwt submit urls https://www.example.com/new-page --dry-run
bwt submit urls https://www.example.com/new-page
bwt submit urls --file urls.txt --check-quota # batches of up to 500On a failure, submit urls reports the batches Bing accepted and stops. It never resubmits, because
every submission spends quota, even for the same URL.
Content submission
Push a page's full HTTP response so Bing can index it without crawling:
curl -s --http1.1 -i https://www.example.com/ -o home.http
bwt submit content https://www.example.com/ --file home.httpThe file holds the status line, headers, a blank line, and the body, up to 10 MB. Add
--structured-data for a JSON-LD file and --dynamic-serving for device-specific pages. It works with
an API key and spends the separate content quota. Submitted content can be indexed even when
robots.txt disallows the URL; NOINDEX is honored.
Sitemaps
bwt sitemaps list
bwt sitemaps submit https://www.example.com/sitemap.xml
bwt sitemaps get https://www.example.com/sitemap_index.xml # sitemaps inside an index
bwt sitemaps remove https://www.example.com/old-sitemap.xmlXML sitemaps, sitemap indexes, RSS 2.0, Atom 0.3 and 1.0, and text feeds are supported.
